Leading the Charge for the Bill Klingner Trail

Running through the heart of Quincy from the Mississippi River to 36th Street, the Bill Klingner Trail is a frequently used attraction for the City. Supported by the Quincy Park District, Klingner engineers developed the initial master plan and the construction documents. The project was divided into six phases due to fundraising.

  • Surveying performed topographic and boundary surveys for Right-of-Way and Easements, as well as construction staking.
  • Geotechnical services included subsurface exploration with test borings and soil sampling; a laboratory testing program; and engineering analyses of the soil-structure interactions at the site.
  • Construction material testing provided soil strength estimates and density testing (DCP and compaction nuclear testing), aggregate density testing, concrete material testing, and concrete strength testing.
  • Construction observation involved daily administration and weekly meetings to track the project’s progress.

Curving along the Cedar Creek corridor, the trail consists of several prefabricated truss bridges, retaining walls, and 24” RCP pipe culverts. This project achieved a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies 2022 Engineering Excellence Awards.
