Architectural Design & Innovation for Blackhawk Tower

Southeastern Community College needed expedited student housing, so Klingner’s staff dove headfirst into creating the 51 modular units that comprise the four-story dormitory and student lounge. Working directly with Campus Community Developers to determine the look and feel of the project, our approach included:

  • Architectural design that showcases collaborative community spaces, quiet study nooks, and spacious dorm rooms that make students feel safe, relaxed, and proud of their home away from home.
  • Interior design with high performance flooring, wall finishes, counter tops, and more.
  • Furniture, Fixtures, & Equipment focused on durable pieces for the dorm rooms and the lounge. Pool tables, ping pong tables, and big cozy couches compliment several tables and chairs used for snacking or studying.

Within six days, the 12’ X 55’ modular units were erected above the base building. The first floor architecture showcases the exposed steel beams and large windows, highlighting the modern structure.

Adaptive Reuse for Harmony Bible Church

A vacant grocery store was transformed into a contemporary church and education center. The 45,000 SF, two-story facility creates a welcoming environment for worship, fellowship, and community services.

  • Architectural design highlights include a gathering room, a coffee bar, a kitchen, an auditorium, youth program area, small group meeting areas, administrative offices, and classrooms that foster a sense of belonging.
  • Interior design specialists delineated spaces through material selection, the inclusion of custom acoustical ceiling panels, and the creative use of color.
  • Furniture, Fixtures, & Equipment revolved around furniture selection in the auditorium and incorporated modern finishes along with integrated LED lighting.

Andy provided services for the project starting with programing and schematic design, moving through design development and construction documents and assisting with construction administration.

Placemaking for the DOT Foods, Inc. Campus

Dot Foods is the largest food industry redistributor in North America, and their Mt. Sterling, IL, headquarters employs over 2,500 people. To provide quality amenities for their staff, DOT partnered with Klingner to develop a master plan for park space at their main campus.

  • Our master planning professionals devised an initial concept with engaging trails, plazas, open lawn areas, and plenty of seating.
  • Landscape design is composed of ornamental and native plantings, a pond, and a waterfall. The design was developed with input from leadership and family members and included plantings that were liked by the company’s co-founder.
Rounding out the grounds is a pavilion incorporating architectural design.

The finished park grounds see daily use and provide a sociable, community feature for DOT staff.
